Queen's and King George's Hospitals
Barking Havering and Redbridge University Hospital NHS Trust covers two sites: King George's Hospital, Ilford and Queen's Hospital in Romford. These are large district general hospitals, and Queen's provides the tertiary referral centre for Essex for neurosurgery. The trainees are well supported, the busy nature of the work means there is a wealth of clinical experience to be gained.
The obstetric unit is particularly busy. There is a novice teaching programme, and time off for exams and study leave is usually easily booked. Consultants are quite active in helping prepare candidates for primary and final FRCA exams. Within the anaesthetic and ITU department, there is weekly teaching which you will be able to attend. Overall this is a friendly department and I would recommend spending some of your time training within BHR trust.
