
Courses
There are many courses on offer throughout the school, in addition to the mandatory courses which form part of core training. These may be, for example, in subspecialist areas of anaesthesia or ITU, practical techniques or exam preparation. The following list outlines some of the courses on offer. Where possible, dates, course fees and contact details have been made available.
Obstetrics
This one day full immersion simulation course is mandatory for all CT2 trainees within BLSA, and focuses on management of anaesthetic emergencies pertaining to the parturient.

Intensive Care Medicine

Intensive Care Essentials: A course aimed at trainees commencing their ITU modules, looking specifically at the technical aspects of organ support. This course comprises workshops, tutorials and simulations. 5 CPD points.

Whipps Airway Course: A one day course in general airway management, including supraglottic, fibreoptic and front-of-neck techniques. Open to all grades of anaesthetist and anaesthetic assistants.

The Barts One Lung Anaesthesia Course
One Lung is a national course for thoracic anaesthesia developed by experts from all over UK and run across multiple centres. The emphasis is on developing practical skills through training on skill stations and clinical scenarios. All the techniques are evidence based and peer-reviewed.

The Annual Homerton Simulation Conference
This conference changes its focus each year, but is geared towards exploring the role simulation can play in improving patient care and patient safety. It boasts visiting speakers who are expert in the field of patient safety, simulation, high reliability organisations and engineering and has proven to be a successful and enjoyable day.

Exam Preparation

Peer-assisted Primary Preparation
Primary FRCA SOE course run over 4 weeks leading up to each sitting of the exam. You will be examined by trainees, who have recently passed their Primary or Final FRCA, in a simulated exam setting. We focus on exam technique and candidate resilience, using a bespoke feedback system.
